19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Cervara.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.
The win also indicates he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.
His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He saved four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
